What an Optical Store Website Needs
AI Tapz Team · October 5, 2026
People visit an optician's website for one of two reasons: they need an eye exam, or they want to see what frames you carry before they come in. An independent optical store competes with chains on service and selection, so the website should make both of those obvious — and make booking effortless.
Make booking an eye exam the main action
Put "Book an eye exam" at the top of every page. Say what types of appointment you offer — routine eye tests, contact lens fittings, children's exams, frame adjustments and repairs — and roughly how long each takes, so people pick the right slot the first time.
Show the frames and brands you stock
Many visitors want to know whether it's worth the trip. List the eyewear brands you carry and show real photos of your frames and your shop. Independent opticians often stock designers the chains don't — say so.
Answer the money questions up front
- Which insurance or vision plans you accept, if any.
- What an eye exam costs, and whether it's free with a purchase.
- Your repair, adjustment and frame-guarantee policies.
Separate booking from general questions
A booking request needs a preferred date, time and appointment type. A question about stock or an order status doesn't. Two short forms route each to the right person and keep both quick to fill in.
Keep health information off the website form
Prescriptions and eye-health details are sensitive. Ask only for what you need to book the visit, and handle clinical information in person or through your practice system — not a public form. Nothing on your site should read as a diagnosis; this article isn't medical advice either.
Win the local search
Optical searches are almost always "near me". Keep your name, address, phone number and opening hours identical on your website and your Google Business Profile, and ask happy customers to leave reviews there.
A ready-made starting point
Our independent optical store website template has six pages — Home, About, Services, FAQ, Booking and Contact — with an eyewear catalog, services, brands and a team section. It has both an appointment request form and a general inquiry form; each stores submissions in your own Postgres database, never on AI Tapz, and you can review and clear them from the "Manage live data" panel in your library.
