Cover Pages & Document Setup for Templates

AI Tapz Team · October 7, 2026

A writing template used to give you well-written text and not much else — no cover, no page numbers, nothing that told a reader what they were holding. Our Writing Templates now come out as finished documents, and you decide how formal each one needs to be.

A designed cover you edit like a web page

Every writing template now opens with a cover page in one of six designs: Classic, Corporate, Bold, Minimal, Report and Elegant. The cover opens in the same visual editor as our website templates, so you click any line to retype it, click the logo box to upload your own, and change colours and fonts from the Theme panel. Switch to another design at any time — your title, company name, logo and brand colour come with you, and the previous version stays in History.

Pages that read like a document, not a draft

The text itself is now laid out as proper pages: real headings, bullet and numbered lists, tables and quotes instead of raw formatting symbols. Every inside page carries a header with the document title and your company, and a footer with the date and "Page X of Y". Change the title or company on the cover and the header follows.

Simple, Standard or Corporate

Not every document needs the same paperwork, so a Document setup panel lets you choose:

  • Simple — just your pages, with header and footer. Right for letters and emails.
  • Standard — adds the cover and a table of contents built from your headings.
  • Corporate — a controlled document: a confidentiality notice, a document control sheet (document number, revision, status, classification, revision history and approvals), a distribution list, definitions and abbreviations, references, a sign-off page and a status watermark.

Prefer your own mix? Tick the pages you want — you can also add a back cover with your contact details, or a divider page before each appendix. Switching a page off only hides it, so anything you typed into it is still there when you switch it back on. Changing your setup is free.

Built for documents that get reviewed

For SOPs, policies and procedures, the document control page does the bookkeeping: "Add revision" adds the next revision number with today's date, and the document number, revision and classification print in the footer of every page, so a printed copy always shows which version it is. Turn on the status watermark and a faint DRAFT or FOR REVIEW runs across the pages until the document is approved.

Download it as PDF, Word or HTML

The finished document downloads in three formats. The PDF prints the cover edge to edge and the pages on A4. The Word file is fully editable, with a native cover, headers and footers, page numbers, and a table of contents that gets its page numbers when you open it (choose Yes when Word asks to update fields). The HTML file matches the PDF.

Try it on a real document

Have a look at a controlled-document template such as the Emergency Cloud Infrastructure Data Breach Response SOP or the Product Launch & Feature Release Checklist SOP, or browse all Writing Templates. Templates you already own pick up the new cover the next time you open them in your library.
